Moscow warns Kiev against attempts to disrupt IAEA mission

 

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that any new attempt to disrupt the IAEA mission's work at the Zaporoje nuclear plant, its responsibility is borne by the regime in Kiev and its custodians.    Russian Foreign Affairs also criticized the West's lack of reaction to Kiev's bombing of the nuclear plant, stating that it made it a partner in sabotage and other destructive steps that extremist nationalists might make.

Former Zaporoje District Administration Principal Council Member Vladimir Rogov wrote on his "Telegram" page that the Agency's mission had crossed a checkpoint in Vasiljevka and subsequently 9 white SUVs had entered the city of Inirgudar, where the nuclear plant was located.


  • For its part, the Ukrainian company Energoatom also confirmed the Agency's delegation's access to the nuclear plant.
  • Novosti reported that a representative of Russia's Ross Atom had briefed the IAEA mission, including its Director General Rafael Grossi
  • on the Zaporoje nuclear plant. The mission also learned about the consequences of Ukraine's bombing on the station.


For its part, the city administration announced that the IAEA delegation, accompanied by Ross Atom employees, had begun inspecting the nuclear plant.


According to a local official, the Ukrainian bombing of the city of Inirgudar and the territory of the nuclear plant stopped at 13:00 on Thursday, the moment the IAEA mission entered liberated areas.

Grossi hopes to establish a permanent observer mission at the Zaporoje nuclear plant


The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, expressed the hope that a permanent mission would be established to observe Europe's largest nuclear plant, Zaporoje.


"This is one of the most important things I want to do and I will do it," Grossi said.


This morning, Grossi announced that an IAEA team of experts had set off for the Zaporoje station, that it would spend "some days" there and prepare a report after the mission had been completed.


Before the mission left, in a convoy of cars, Ukraine's capital, Kiev, where it arrived on Tuesday, Grossi said: "These operations are very complex. We're going to a war zone. This requires clear guarantees not only from the Russians, but also from Ukraine. "


Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov had confirmed that UNMIK had approximately 10 staff members in the IAEA secretariat dealing with safeguards and nuclear safety issues, accompanied by a team of United Nations personnel dealing with logistical and security issues.


Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that the team of inspectors would arrive at the Zaporoje station, which has been controlled by Russian forces since March, through an area under the control of the Ukrainian army.


The pro-Russian Zaporoje authorities expressed their willingness to provide the international mission with evidence of Ukraine's bombing of the Zaporoje nuclear plant.
