Her 14-year-old son's counsel helped her win millions of dollars. Elon Musk's mum is wistful about the past!
The mother of American billionaire Elon Musk, a 74-year-old model, Mae Musk, revealed a tip given to her son when he was 14.
In a tweet on her Twitter page, May said that 35 years ago Elon had asked her to buy some shares in Tesla, which, despite the recommendations of her stockbroker boyfriend, he believed was a bad idea to invest in the company.
May shared that historic incident, after her son had now given some stock selection advice
with the world's richest man asking his followers to buy shares in companies that made products they believed in, and not panic when markets panicked.
May published a practical example of her son's billionaire investment philosophy, stating that she had invested about a thousand South African rand (equivalent to about a thousand United States dollars at the time)
in shares recommended by her then-son in the 1980s, which she was prepared to lose at the time.
- but when the model (his mother) panicked she sold her shares.
- Addressing her son, she wrote on Twitter
- She was not happy with what I did,
- because the prices of those shares continued to rise."
