Trump says he needs to retrieve classified documents so he can add them to the presidential library

Donald Trump demanded that every document removed from his residence in Mar-a-Lago be returned, stating that he would eventually request records for his presidential library, instead transferring them to the Department of National Archives and Records. "This search and seizure of Mar-a-Lago was illegal and unconstitutional, and we are taking all necessary measures to retrieve the documents, which we would have given them without having to break into my despicable home, so that Trump said Monday in a press release posted on Truth Social:" I can give them to the National Archives until they are ordered for Donald G's library and museum. Trump Presidency ".

so that Trump said Monday in a press release posted on Truth Social:

  • " I can give them to the National Archives until they are ordered for Donald G's library and museum. Trump Presidency ".
  • In addition to making a statement, the former president also revealed that his lawyers filed a lawsuit Monday in federal court in Florida.
  • The case requires a "private master", a third party chosen by the court

to review all White House papers removed from his Palm Beach home on August 8 by the FBI. It also requests a "more detailed" list of items taken.

After the National Archives first requested the return of any files at the White House in February, Trump's request did not arrive until months later. The organization then asked the Justice Department to consider any possible violations of federal law by the former president.

His justification for obtaining records for his Presidential Library is just one in a long series of variable justifications he has used to justify the removal of official material, some of which are now known to be confidential.

Trump has previously claimed that the FBI planted some documents and that others were mistakenly taken home from work.

Justice Department spokesman Anthony Cooley discussed Trump's action in a statement to CNBC and other news outlets "The August 8 search warrant in Mar-a-Lago was authorized by a federal court based on the result required for probable cause. The Department is aware of this evening's proposal. the United States will provide its response in court ".

His argument appears to be based on his past support for former President Barack Obama's handling of White House records of his presidential library. The Obama case was handled in accordance with the legal procedures in place to transfer White House records.
