Trump has repeatedly threatened to sue media organizations for their news coverage, which he considers unfair or disrespectful, of his activities.

Although he has rarely pursued this, his attacks on the media have become a key element of his political message, often cited in fund-raising requests in the run-up to this year's congressional midterm elections.

In 2020, his campaign sued The NewYork Times and The Washington Post over op-eds linking Trump to Russian interference in the U.S. election. His case against the Times was dismissed.
