Prosecutors offer Trump the chance to testify in porn star case

Prosecutors in New York offered Donald Trump an opportunity to testify before a grand jury, suggesting that an investigation into money he allegedly paid to a porn star could end with an indictment.

The New York Times and The Washington Post claim that

former US President Donald Trump was offered an opportunity to testify next week before a grand jury in

New York :

  • whose investigation reportedly involved paying $ 130 thousand
  • before the 2016 presidential election, a porn star
  • called Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had a relationship with Trump.

The Times said that :

such offers by Trump to testify almost always indicate that

the indictment is approaching", and this would therefore be the first time a former US president has been charged with a crime.

Trump :

who has already announced his intention to re-race

facing many judicial investigations for the White House

and federal levels for possible wrongdoing before

during and after his first term as president of the United States. He hasn't yet been charged in any of them, though.

The indictment on the money paid to the representative or any other investigation could affect the race to the White House in 2024.

He claims the financial payment

two weeks before the November 2016 elections

by a close Trump aide lawyer Michael Cohen, was aimed at preventing Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, from disclosing that she had an affair with Trump years ago.

In generaln :

the Prosecutor may offer a potential witness

including the defendant, the opportunity to testify in a court case.

The decision to testify is ultimately down to the witness

and they may choose to

exercise their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refusal to testify.

In a case involving a pornographic star

  • the testimony is likely to relate to allegations of a sexual nature.
  • Witnesses testifying in court may be subjected to cross-examination
  • as the other party's counsel may ask questions to

challenge their credibility or testimony.

It is important to note that any legal case involving a public figure

such as former President Trump

may generate considerable media attention and public interest.

However :

legal procedures must be followed in accordance with

the applicable legal procedures and rules of evidence.
