Amazing health benefits of drinking tea daily
Millions around the world drink tea daily
but few know the many health benefits this traditional drink holds.
Dr.Carrie Ruxton
a nutritionist from the Tea Advisory Committee (teaadvisorypanel.com)
explains the most prominent health benefits that tea offers, and how
a simple drink can positively impact heart, sleep, bone, and even mental health.
HeartHealth
Drinking a cup of tea daily for 7 years or more helps lower blood pressure
and reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks by up to 19%.
Ruxton says:
Polyphenols in tea relax blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure.
It is preferable to drink black tea with steeping for 1 to 2 minutes to achieve
the best benefits, with an ideal amount of up to 4 cups per day," he said.
Improve sleep
Drinking one or two cups of tea daily, especially before bed, helps improve sleep
quality and relaxation. "Chamomile and lavender teas are great options
for calming nerves and promoting healthy sleep," says Ruxton.
BoneHealth
Drinking tea is associated with increased bone mineral density and reduces
the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, especially in postmenopausal women.
Ruxton adds:
- "We are still looking for the direct effect of tea on bones
- but it may help the body absorb minerals, and we should
- not forget the role of added milk in increasing calcium.".
Reduce stress
Tea contains compounds that help reduce stress
and anxiety levels such as L-theanine and GABA.
Oral Health
Polyphenols in tea help fight bacteria that cause bad breath
making it a natural alternative to mouthwash.
Brain & Health
Studies have linked drinking tea regularly to a lower risk of declining mental
abilities such as poor memory, especially in middle-aged and older people.
"Drinking one or two cups of black tea a day
can improve cognitive function," Roxton points out.
StomachHealth
Tea improves the balance of beneficial bacteria in the intestines
which boosts immunity and reduces respiratory infections.
Herbal teas
such as mint, ginger, and chamomile, also help relieve nausea and bloating.
Sexual Health
Studies indicate that black tea may increase testosterone levels, which increases
sexual desire in men and women. Some types of herbal teas
such as ginseng, are known for their aphrodisiac properties.
