Trump:
Coca-Cola has agreed to use natural sugar
in its drink in the United States
US President Donald Trump
- said on Wednesday that Coca-Cola has agreed to
- use natural sugar extracted from cane in
- its main soft drink in the United States at his suggestion.
Trump said in
a blog post published by the White House on the "X" platform: "I spoke to Coca
Cola about using natural sugar in Coca-Cola within
the United States, and they agreed to that".
He added: "I would like to thank everyone who is in a position of responsibility
at Coca-Cola. It's a very good move on their part. You will see.. It's simply better."
The White House
- attached to Trump's blog post on the Truth Social platform
- a picture of a glass bottle of the product on
- which was written "Share a cola with Trump".
The president did not provide additional details about the implementation
timeline
and the company did not officially confirm this decision.
In this context
a spokeswoman for Coca-Cola, which is based in Atlanta
said that the company appreciates President Trump's enthusiasm.
The spokeswoman
- promised to reveal more
- details soon regarding
- the updates that will occur to its products.
Coca-cola
- did not provide further details, but for years the company has been
- satisfying natural sugar lovers in America by importing Mexican
- Coca-Cola bottles made with sugar since 2005.
Any shift from using high fructose corn syrup in Coca-Cola sold in the United States
will make the company more compatible with its practices in other countries such
as Mexico and Australia, where natural sugar is used, but this change will not affect
Trump's favorite drink, Diet Coke
which contains Aspartame as a calorie-free solution.
This potential
change in production policy is likely to affect American corn farmers
whose production is primarily used to produce artificial sweeteners.
There are many health consequences of
drinking Coca-Cola daily
Research has revealed that sugary soft drinks, such as Coca-Cola, not only increase
the risk of obesity and diabetes, but may also harm your digestive system.
In this regard, experts have warned that consuming these drinks can lead to
digestive disorders, fractures, and even permanent organ damage.
Sugar-free soft drinks are not a safe alternative, as they may stimulate
the desire to eat sweets, which contributes to weight gain and diseases such as
diabetes.
Artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame
may also cause stomach upset, such as diarrhea and constipation.
Coca-cola :
and many other soft drinks contain phosphoric acid, which is used to
increase the acidity of food products and prevent bacterial growth.
Phosphoric acid comes from phosphorus
a natural mineral found in the body responsible for the growth and repair of
tissues and cells. While the body needs phosphorus, excessive intake
can deplete calcium, increasing the risk of osteoporosis.
A study published in
the journal Nutrients found that drinking soda daily doubles the risk of fractures.
In addition, soda irritates the stomach lining due to high carbonate levels
which may worsen symptoms in people with stomach infections or ulcers.
Furthermore
research shows that sugary soft drinks lower good cholesterol (HDL)
levels and increase triglycerides, increasing the risk of heart disease.
One study
confirmed that drinking soda frequently significantly increases
the risk of low HDL levels and high triglycerides.
Regarding liver health
an observational study showed that women who drink a sugar-sweetened soft drink
daily face an 85% risk of developing liver cancer compared to those who drink less
than one drink per week.
- Drinking soda daily
- also increases the risk of
- death from liver disease by 68%.
While there is no link between sugar-free drinks and liver disease, they do have
particular side effects. A 2022 study showed that artificial sweeteners, such as
aspartame
can cause malabsorption of sugars
leading to severe diarrhea and dehydration.
Ultimately
- it is clear that soft drinks
- whether sweetened or sugar-free
- carry significant health risks.
