American media:

The accused of attempting to assassinate

Trump tried to buy heavy weapons from Ukraine

Court documents revealed that Ryan Roth, accused of attempting to assassinate former US President Donald Trump in September 2024, sought to purchase Stinger missiles from a Ukrainian to target Air Force One.

According to

  • a court document filed by the Federal Prosecutor's Office
  • in August 2024, Roth attempted to purchase heavy weapons
  • online from a Ukrainian with access to military weapons.

Send me an RPG

or a Stinger and I'll see what we can do*," he was quoted as saying to another person, adding, "I need equipment to prevent Trump from winning the election."

Roth also

tried to purchase a 50mm rifle

which was more powerful than the rifle he had previously obtained

but his contact was unable to provide it before the accident.

Failed assassination attempt

In September 2024

Roth hid in trees near the Trump International Club in West Palm Beach, carrying a rifle 300-500 yards from Trump, then a Republican presidential candidate.

A Secret Service agent noticed the gun and opened fire

and Roth fled in his car before being arrested 50 miles from the scene.

Roth's lawyers asked

the judge to exclude the testimony of the witness who helped identify him

alleging that police used "unacceptable" methods during interrogation

such as showing a single photo of Roth after his arrest, which could lead to a "misidentification." The trial, scheduled for September 2025, continues.
