Recent research: 4 cups of black tea
a day lowers blood pressure and cholesterol
Recent research shows that drinking black tea daily not only provides warmth and comfort, but also contributes to protecting the heart and improving blood vessel health.
Studies have shown that black tea helps lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, as well as control blood sugar levels and prevent type 2 diabetes.
Dr Tim Bond
a tea scientist from the Tea Advisory Committee
explained:
The benefits of tea for the heart have been known for years
and new scientific research has confirmed its importance for heart health.
A study published in :
- the journal Frontiers in Nutrition highlights
- the polyphenol-rich content of tea, confirming
- the clear benefits of drinking tea daily.
Dr. Bond noted that flavanoid polyphenols
called flavan-3-ols, play a key role in tea's positive effects on blood pressure, heart health, and the risk of stroke and diabetes. Studies have shown that these compounds may reduce the risk of chronic diseases by up to 19%, and reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases by 13%.
He added:
- The American Dietetic Association recommended consuming
- 400-600 mg of flavan-3-ols daily to improve heart health
- which is equivalent to four cups of tea daily".
Studies indicate that drinking tea regularly
- one to four cups a day
- contributes to lowering blood pressure
- and improving blood vessel function in
the long term. The flavonoid content in :
black tea also reduces harmful cholesterol levels, helps control blood glucose levels and administer insulin, which is essential for diabetics and prediabetics.
Dr. Bond emphasized that
the ideal goal is to drink 3-4 cups of tea daily to obtain 400-600 mg of polyphenolic flavanols, which help relieve inflammation and reduce stress in the body, including the heart and blood vessels, making tea a daily drink beneficial to overall health.

Amazing health benefits of drinking tea daily
Millions around the world drink tea every day
but few know the many health benefits this traditional drink carries.
Dr. Carrie Roxton
a nutritionist from the Tea Advisory Committee (teaadvisorypanel.com), explains the most prominent health benefits that tea offers, and how a simple drink can positively affect heart health, sleep, bones, and even mental health.
Heart health
Drinking a cup of tea daily for 7 years or more helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks by up to 19%.
"The polyphenols in tea relax blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure," says Roxton. It is preferable to drink black tea and steep it for one to two minutes to achieve the best benefits, and an ideal amount of up to 4 cups per day.
Improve sleep
- Drinking one or two cups of tea daily
- especially before bed
- helps improve sleep quality
and relaxation. "Chapong and lavender tea are great options
for calming the nerves and promoting healthy sleep," says Roxton.
Bone health
Drinking tea is associated with increased bone mineral density and reduces the risk of bone fragility and fractures, especially in postmenopausal women.
Roxton adds:
"We are still looking for the direct effect of tea on bones, but it may help the body absorb minerals, and let us not forget the role of added milk in increasing calcium".
Reduce stress
- Tea contains compounds that
- help reduce stress and anxiety levels
- such as L-theanine and GABA.
Oral health
The polyphenols in tea help fight bacteria that
cause bad breath, making it a natural alternative to mouthwash.
Brain health
Studies have linked regular tea drinking to a lower risk of declining mental abilities such as poor memory, especially in middle age and older adults.
"Drinking one or two cups of black tea a day can improve cognitive function," Roxton notes.
Stomach health
Tea improves the balance of beneficial bacteria in the intestines, which boosts immunity and reduces respiratory infections. Herbal teas, such as mint, ginger, and chamomile, also help relieve nausea and bloating.
Sexual health
Studies show that black tea may increase testosterone levels, which increases sexual desire in men and women. Some types of herbal teas, such as ginseng, are known for their aphrodisiac properties.
