Hold the secret key for youth!..
A new discovery about the benefits of coffee
A recent study revealed that people who drink coffee moderately may have a biological age about five years younger than those who do not drink it at all.
According to research published in the journal BMJ Mental Health, moderate coffee consumption (a maximum of four cups per day)
is associated
with slowing the biological aging process by lengthening telomeres
the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that protect genetic material.
The researchers explained that short telomere length is associated with an increased risk of age-related diseases, while normal length maintains cell health.
But the study warned that
- exceeding the recommended maximum
- i.e. four cups per day, or the equivalent of 400 mg of caffeine
- causes coffee to lose its benefits and may even cause cellular damage.
The study focused on
the effect of coffee on people with severe psychological disorders, as their telomere shortening accelerates significantly. The research sample included 436 adults, including 259 with schizophrenia and 177 with mood disorders.
The results showed that participants who drank 3-4 cups of coffee per day had the longest telomeres, equivalent to a five-year difference in biological age, even after taking into account factors such as age, gender, and smoking.
Researchers believe that
these benefits are due to coffee containing powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that help protect telomeres sensitive to oxidative stress.
For her part
Dr. Elizabeth Akam from Lovebra University
who was not involved in the study, commented that the research did not distinguish between the different components of coffee, noting the need for more studies to find out the exact mechanisms behind these effects.
7 myths about coffee..
The truth from a Russian cardiologist
Dr. Roman Orsan, a cardiovascular specialist
refuted the most common myths about coffee
noting that the safe dose of drinking it is up to four cups of espresso per day.
He pointed out that
coffee does not harm the heart when consumed regularly, and does not cause calcium to leak from the body, and drinking it with milk may enhance its benefits.
Myth 1:
Coffee is just an energy drink with no health benefits
Orsan explained that coffee is not just a stimulant drink, but contains antioxidants, polyphenols and organic acids that are beneficial for cells and intestinal bacteria. He added that the smell of coffee and the pleasure of drinking it with others contribute to maintaining the brain's neuroplasticity.
Myth 2:
It is enough to drink only one cup a day
- The doctor indicated that the safe dose of
- caffeine is about 400 milligrams per day
- equivalent to four cups of espresso.
Pregnant
and breastfeeding women are advised to be careful
as caffeine can increase uterine tension and pass into breast milk
which may cause sleep disturbance and baby anxiety.
Therefore
coffee is not the ideal choice during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Myth 3:
Coffee helps you feel full
Coffee may temporarily relieve hunger, but it does not change eating behavior or promote long-term weight loss, Orsan said. Although it is common among students and people with busy schedules, it is not an effective way to lose weight.
Myth 4:
Coffee weakens the heart and blood vessels
The doctor confirmed that the benefits of coffee outweigh its potential harms, and that it does not weaken the heart when consumed in moderation.
However
excessive or irregular intake may lead to a temporary increase in heart rate or blood pressure, and sometimes to a slight feeling of irregular pulse.
Myth 5:
Coffee is hard to quit
Orsan explained that coffee addiction is not permanent, and can be eliminated by gradually reducing consumption, switching to decaffeinated coffee, or replacing it with herbal or chicory tea.
He added:
"There will be no severe withdrawal symptoms
after two days of stopping, but the first 24 hours may be annoying
and accompanied by headache, nausea, difficulty concentrating, and anxiety".
Myth 6:
Coffee leaks calcium from the body
The doctor explained that coffee improves renal blood flow
but it does not negatively affect calcium metabolism.
He noted that maintaining
- a calcium-rich diet
- such as eating fermented milk products
- cheese, and nuts prevents any potential effect.
Myth 7:
Coffee with milk is poison
Orsan completely denied this belief
stressing that coffee with milk is harmless, and that milk even enhances some of the health benefits of coffee. But he warned that some types of milk are high in calories, which requires attention when monitoring weight.
