What is 30 September?

Sept. 30 was chosen as World Translation Day to commemorate the outstanding role of St. Jerome, a priest from northeast Italy, and was known for trying to translate most of the Bible into Latin from Greek manuscripts of the New Testament

He also translated parts of the Hebrew Bible into Greek. He was of Illery origin and mother tongue. He learned Latin at school and was fluent in Greek and Hebrew, which he obtained from his studies and travels.

Jerome died near Bethlehem on September 30, 420, after translating the Bible into Latin and moving specifically from his hometown near Delmacia, near the Adriatic Sea in present-day Croatia, to Bethlehem.

Noble Goals Behind the Celebration of World Translation Day

The "World Translation Day" seeks to promote an old profession that is currently in intense competition with machinery and artificial intelligence, although it is increasingly needed in an era of globalization and communication, sponsored by the International Federation of Translators, established in 1953.

In 1991 

The Federation launched the observance of World Translation Day as an officially recognized day, to demonstrate the mutual support of translators around the world and to strengthen the translation profession in various countries. 

The celebration is an opportunity to showcase the benefits of this profession, which is ever more important in an era of globalization.
